Geoform

What is Geoform and why is it important to [GAAC Collective] Geometric Abstraction Artists Canada?

WHAT IS GEOFORM?

“Geoform is an online resource and international forum focusing on the use of geometric form and structure in contemporary abstract art. The Geoform project explores and celebrates the continuing vitality and rich diversity of style and aesthetic intent of its practitioners worldwide.”
Above quote from the ©2005 “About Geoform” page – Geoform website curated by Julie Karabenick.

From 2005 to August 2020, Julie Karabenick, Ph.D., artist, curator, writer and editor from Michigan, USA curated and welcomed approximately 350 artists from 33 countries to be part of her Geoform project. As well, Julie also personally conducted 41 in-depth artist interviews over the years. The global art community was saddened to hear of Julie’s passing on August 8, 2020. Her visionary legacy lives on in the form of her online Geoform project. Her portfolio of progressive geometric abstract works of art and valued relationships made during the course of her Geoform project will continue to be admired and cherished.  Julie Karabenick – website

WHY IS GEOFORM IMPORTANT TO [GAAC Collective] GEOMETRIC ABSTRACTION ARTISTS CANADA?

We are thankful and grateful to Julie Karabenick and Geoform for being the catalyst that helped bring together via a shared passion for geometric abstract art, the founding members of [GAAC Collective] Geometric Abstraction Artists Canada.

In February 2025 an opportunity presented itself to be part of a cross cultural group exhibition exchange program. In order to move this program forward would require the gathering of a select group of Canadian artists to band together under the genre of abstraction to represent Canada. In order to optimize this selection, a decision was made to research the Geoform online project for participating Canadian artists who may be interested in forming this new Canadian artist collective and who mutually share a passion specifically for geometric abstraction.

We were delighted to welcome distinguished Canadian artists and Geoform participants: Blaise DeLong from Toronto/Rockport, Ontario and Heidi Spector from Montreal, Quebec who accepted an invitation to join in the formation of [GAAC Collective] Geometric Abstraction Artists Canada as its founding members on March 19, 2025.
