2026 GEOMETRIC ABSTRACTION
An abstractionist for well over 25 years, Michèle LaRose is invariably drawn to the precision of geometric abstraction over other forms. Nevertheless, she maintains the hand of the maker by creating everything freehand, thereby reflecting the human element. This serves as a counterbalance to hard edges and contained spaces and allows the imagination to take flight. Together with other elements, they convey a sense of movement and energy with which to engage.
Shape, line, texture and colour offer infinite possibilities in the field of geometric abstraction. She likens this kind of painting to flying on a trapeze with no safety net. No immediate connection to the real world to tell you what comes next. No suggestion of how to resolve a thorny section that fights back. The challenge is exhilarating and offers the kind of addictive ‘mind+intuition’ puzzle, on a flat plane, she relishes. Michèle exhibits regularly and can be found in the permanent collection of the Agnes Etherington Art Centre, Kingston, and private collections in Canada and Europe. She lives and works in Kingston, Ontario.
2026 ABSTRACTION GÉOMÉTRIQUE
Abstractionniste depuis plus de 25 ans, Michèle LaRose est invariablement attirée par la précision de l’abstraction géométrique par rapport aux autres formes. Néanmoins, elle maintient la main du fabricant en créant tout à main levée, reflétant ainsi l’élément humain. Cela sert de contrepoids aux bords durs et aux espaces contenus et permet à l’imagination de s’envoler. Avec d’autres éléments, ils transmettent un sentiment de mouvement et d’énergie avec laquelle s’engager.
La forme, la ligne, la texture et la couleur offrent des possibilités infinies dans le domaine de l’abstraction géométrique. Elle compare ce genre de peinture à voler sur un trapèze sans filet de sécurité. Pas de connexion immédiate avec le monde réel pour vous dire ce qui vient ensuite. Aucune suggestion sur la façon de résoudre une section épineuse qui riposte. Le défi est exaltant et offre le genre de casse-tête ‘esprit+intuition’ addictif, et sur un plan plat, qu’elle savoure.
Michèle expose régulièrement et peut être trouvée dans la collection permanente du Centre d’art Agnes Etherington, Kingston, et des collections privées au Canada et en Europe. Elle habite et travaille à Kingston, ON.
